Your holiday begins the moment you arrive at Cochin International Airport or Ernakulam Railway Station, where you will be welcomed by your driver. You will immediately embark on a four-hour scenic drive to Munnar, the “Kashmir of South India.” As the road winds upwards through the Western Ghats, you will stop at the magnificent Cheeyappara and Valara Waterfalls for a refreshing break and photo opportunity. Upon reaching Munnar, you will check into your hill resort. The evening is free for you to relax and enjoy the misty mountain air, or perhaps take a short walk to the nearest town market before retiring for the night.
After a delicious breakfast, you will set out to explore the best of Munnar. The morning begins with a visit to Eravikulam National Park (Rajamalai), famous for the endangered Nilgiri Tahr and blooming Neelakurinji flowers. Following this, you will visit the Tea Museum to witness the journey of tea from leaf to cup. In the afternoon, the tour continues to the serene Mattupetty Dam and Echo Point, where you can shout your name and hear it reverberate through the hills. You will also stop at Kundala Lake for a view of the arch dam before returning to your hotel for a cozy overnight stay.
On the third day, you will check out from Munnar and take a picturesque 3.5-hour drive to Thekkady (Periyar). This route is famous for its spice plantations, and the air here is thick with the scent of cardamom and pepper. Upon arrival and check-in, you will head to the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. The highlight here is a boat safari on Periyar Lake, where you have a high chance of spotting wild elephants, bison, and boars coming to the water’s edge to drink. In the evening, you can opt for a guided spice plantation tour or watch a live Kathakali dance performance before resting at your jungle resort.
After breakfast, you will leave the jungle behind and drive down to the coastal backwaters of Alleppey (approx. 4 hours). By 12:30 PM, you will board your private Kettuvallam (traditional houseboat) for the highlight of your trip. As the boat cruises slowly through the narrow canals and vast paddy fields, you will be served a traditional Kerala lunch prepared on board. You will spend the day relaxing on the deck, watching the rustic village life pass by. As the sun sets, the boat will drop anchor in the middle of the lake, where you will enjoy dinner and a peaceful night on the water.
You will wake up to a sunrise over the backwaters and enjoy a breakfast on the boat before disembarking at 9:00 AM. Your driver will pick you up for the short 1.5-hour drive back to Cochin. Depending on your flight or train timing, you will enjoy a heritage tour of Fort Kochi, visiting the Chinese Fishing Nets, St. Francis Church, and the Dutch Palace. You will then be dropped off at the airport or railway station, concluding your Kerala adventure with a bag full of memories and spices.
