Your journey begins at Cochin International Airport or Ernakulam Railway Station. After a warm welcome by your driver, you will start the 4-hour drive to Munnar. The route is a visual treat, passing through rubber plantations and thick forests. You will stop at the Cheeyappara and Valara Waterfalls to stretch your legs and take photos. Upon reaching Munnar, the air turns crisp and cool. After checking into your resort, you can spend the evening relaxing on your balcony or visiting the nearby town for a cup of locally brewed cardamom tea.
After breakfast, you will dedicate the day to Munnar’s stunning landscapes. Start with Eravikulam National Park to see the Nilgiri Tahr and enjoy the panoramic views of the tea valley. Next, visit the Tea Museum to learn the art of tea processing. In the afternoon, head to Mattupetty Dam and Echo Point. The calm waters here are perfect for a speed boat ride. On your way back, stop at the Rose Garden or the Photo Point for some memorable pictures before returning to your hotel for the night.
On the third day, you will drive 3.5 hours south to Thekkady (Periyar). The landscape changes from tea gardens to spice plantations. After checking in, head straight to the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. The highlight here is the boat safari on Periyar Lake, where you can spot wild elephants, bison, and exotic birds along the shoreline. In the evening, you can visit a local spice plantation to see how cardamom, pepper, and cloves are grown, or watch a traditional Kalaripayattu (martial arts) show.
After breakfast, drive 4 hours to Alleppey to board your private Houseboat by 12:30 PM. This is often the favorite part of the trip. As the boat cruises through the backwaters, you will be served a freshly prepared Kerala lunch. You will spend the afternoon gliding past paddy fields, ancient temples, and village homes. As the sun sets, the boat will dock for the night. Enjoy a candlelit dinner on the water and sleep in the quiet comfort of the lake.
Wake up to a sunrise on the backwaters, have breakfast, and disembark at 9:00 AM. Your driver will take you on a 4.5-hour drive further south to Kovalam. After checking into your beach resort, the rest of the day is at leisure. You can head to the famous Lighthouse Beach, climb the spiral staircase of the lighthouse for a bird’s-eye view, or simply swim in the shallow waters of Hawa Beach. Watch the sunset over the Arabian Sea and enjoy fresh seafood at a beachside shack.
On your final day, take a short 30-minute drive to Trivandrum city. Visit the majestic Padmanabhaswamy Temple (note: dress code is strict—dhotis for men, sarees/skirts for women) and the Napier Museum if time permits. Your driver will then drop you at Trivandrum International Airport (TRV) or the Railway Station for your journey home, saving you the long drive back to Cochin.
